WVU engineers create high-tech beer pong table

April 19th, 2008 by Erica

Well, West Virginia University has finally done it. I’m not sure if WVU’s title of #1 party school in the nation was in danger of going to another institution, but with the advent of the Best Beer Pong Table EVER, I think the school is safe for another year.

For those of you who need a quick beer pong tutorial, the game is commonly played on college campuses. A long table (or a piece of plywood) is set up, and six cups are placed on either end of the table and half-filled with beer. Opposing players take turn drunkenly lobbing ping pong balls towards the others’ cups; if you get a ball in the beer, your opponent has to drink it. Wikipedia has a very scientific discussion that I would recommend checking out.

Engineering students Wes Hardin, Rob Fernandez, C.J. Grimm and Blake Baldwin spent over 400 hours creating the beer pong table. The table has over 600 lights that ring the table and pulse to music, as well as self-filling ball washers, which perform the important task of washing off the dirty ping pong balls before they land in a cup of beer.

The table can’t really be described, so I would recommend checking out the You Tube video.
